To my friends in the US: That’s so great, what you did. You chose a good man for President and filled the world with hope. All these past years, you must have felt the despair of not being represented justly to the rest of the world.
Europe is a more cynical place, yet we too need this hope, not the one any messiah provides, but the simple hope an intelligent, eloquent, honourable person who will be able to sit down with allies instead of disregarding the United Nations.
Well done, it’s a good day today.

Hey.. i fully agree!! I think everyone around the world is celebrating the end of Bush and McCain! I genuinely believe this is the best thing that America has done in this decade.

Yes! Now if only California’s Proposition 8 (the one which in effect bans gay marriage) hadn’t passed, then it would be truly a perfect political day.

Thank you.
There’s a definite zeitgeist in the US that’s calling for change. I’ve never voted in my adult life, but there was a candidate who spurred me to register and take note of how other candidates were handling issues, and I ended up voting for our new President. I’m happy the majority of the country feels as I do.

Even this American cynic is joyful today.
Keep hope alive!

Oh happy day

It feels great!
It won’t be easy as he said and I think we’re all going to put a bit of ourselves into the equation.

Such a beautiful day, indeed…

Your view of us uplifts me and your thought to honor the occasion with a post thrills me. I can’t well enough define the relief, the joy, the fledgling hope I feel. And the guilt, for as I wrote to my friend Anno, I had all but given up on the American people thinking the majority would again choose just more of the same bad representation. I am still awakening to the historically momentous thing that has happened, still looking around me in disbelief making sure it is indeed OK to hope again, because it’s been so long I’ve almost forgotten. So thanks so much for this Chloe!

I am fascinated by “World reaction” to our election. I certainly am not nearly as connected to politics in, oh… say Greece, for example. I suppose the last eight years of disaster make this positive change all the more globally notable. Like many in the US, I am experiencing guarded optimism as Obama makes the move from candidate to executive. I already like the team he is building and was pleased to learn he had been putting together the transition for quite some time. I’ll never forget 2004 when Dunder Head was inexplicably reelected… I was so extremely depressed that I moved to Italy (for two weeks, but still) to escape. Here’s hoping the country finally begins moving forward again.

we are all so relieved that there is hope for our country. We were planning to head to Canada or Mexico if it had gone the other way. Can u imagine 4years of palin? Girl doesn’t even know that Africa is a continent.

I voted from here, and then had to wait a few weeks to find out how it went.
It’s the first time in ages we haven’t gotten it wrong.
It’s funny - living abroad, my work colleagues, friends, friends of friends - keep congratulating me on behalf of everyone “Good job, token American!”

I still cry if I watch the speech!

I hope you’re enjoying life! Take care.
Cheers!

It feels good - even though we are still in the deep guano, there is hope and that’s a good thing.
