I made some Daleks for my son. Don’t get too excited. There is a special Dalek mix I had found in Waitrose, so they are pretty easy to make. In case you are not a Doctor Who fan, Daleks are an extraterrestrial race of mutants from Doctor Who. They are really mean, as all of their emotions were taken away except hate. EXTERMINATE!

I took my son to swimming class. I hate it there. There are all those swimming class mums. They are like soccer mums I guess. They can throw you off the balcony to make room for them so that they can watch their kids swim. The worst thing is when the class is over and they wait for the kids with shower gel and shampoo in hand, yelling "get in the shower now Now NOW!!" so that their kid is the first to get the hot water. And they always feed the younger kids who watch their brothers and sisters, crisps and coke (as in coca cola, not white powder).

M gave me this perfume for my nameday. Jo Malone makes the best perfumes and colognes. If you don’t know what a nameday is, I am sorry to say you haven’t been paying attention all these years. Well, it’s the day the saint you are named after died an agonizing death. Here in Greece we celebrate that.

This is the smallest pumpkin I’ve ever seen. It is not bigger than an orange and it is really yummy. Maybe because it is small, all the goodness stays in one place. I slaughtered it the other day and made a nice risotto.

Beans and carrots. At least I still cook. Oh, I wash too.

Oh I know what those are - they look just like the real thing! Well done, hehe
I don’t like swimming pools, the smell, the heat, the locker-rooms…ughh. Oh and the yelling kids. (Although I am SURE your boy behaves well
It’s the season for pumpkins and marmelade. I read you wrote marmelada on your flickr - is that how you say it there? It’s how we say it here.
September 27th, 2007 at 1:39 pm
yes that’s what we call it marmelada! although we don’t pronounce the d, it’s more of a marmelatha with th as in “the”. xxxxx

I think you should introduce the Daleks to the Swim Moms, that way they can exterminate each other. ;D

Sounds as if you are too crowded. I went through that living in Switzerland and my nerves were always on edge.
Now some days I just sit in my chair and listen to the quiet.

OHH slaughtered pumpkins to make yummy risotto. did you put any other flavor in risotto?? if you have been paying attention, which i know you have, risotto is my favorite food ever.
never had pumpkin tho. add that to my wish list when i come to greece. (BTW, i found a deal 5 days including airfare for 899. BUT the islands are not included! WAHH- whats the weather like in March? should i have put all this in an email?? perhaps)
i love the pool but the OUTSIDE pool!! your son was the cutest by far, but i am partial to my best blog friends kids’. lol

OH HAPPY NAME DAY! do you say “happy name day?”
September 28th, 2007 at 1:57 am
Jeanne
love you too. sweet girl. xx
Papa
hehehee. True. Although i think extraterrestrial mutants don’t stand a chance when it comes to mums.
Hattie
Some days yes it’s too busy. What makes the day particularly busy in an unpleasant way is having to see many strange faces.
Gi
i don’t mean to brag, but i will, because i make the best pumpkin risotto ever, with saffron. Saffron gives it a unique taste. I’ll make you some when you visit.
Don’t accept any travel deal that does not include the islands, because Athens is UGLY.
The weather in March is usually sunny, if a little cold for the islands. Let’s face it if you come to Greece you are going to want to swim in the Aegean, so March is not good. May is great though.
p.s we do say happy nameday! we have another tradition too: namedays are celebrated for 40 days. That means anyone who has forgotten can call you 20 days later and say “happy nameday!”

Dalek shaped biscuits kick ass, I think the Daleks are about the only evil aliens that could beat the Borg and should in fact be spelled Darlek, because they don’t rhyme with Alec. They could be couple with garlic in really awful poetry.
September 28th, 2007 at 3:55 am
Not the Daleks?!
If Waitrose were to open a store in Athens, I would consider moving back.
September 28th, 2007 at 1:43 pm
two words for the soccer mums. pepper spray
September 28th, 2007 at 4:08 pm
Chloe- wonderful advice!! will look for island trip in MAY! ohhh and saffron risotto?? yummmmmmm…. wait! do you finish it with heavy cream? just wondering!
September 28th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
I KNEW those Mums didn’t feed their
kids coke (as in white powder)
OBVIOUSLY they kept that for themselves.
September 29th, 2007 at 6:05 am
carrots with beans now that is a new one for me.
Although I think you could cook spinach and radishes put it in a bowl and your photo would make it look yummy!

You must smell like my wife. (I’m referring to the Jo Malone, not the wee pumpkin.)
September 29th, 2007 at 11:07 am
Just look at all that color!
Every time I visit here, I’m in awe at the images. Just so clear and alive!
Brings your posts more meaning

dalek = swimming mum?
same evil race?
So, I’m not too late to say Happy Name Day? If I can manage before I go (or maybe from Maine the week before I go) I’ll send you a mix CD as a present. It won’t be as fancy as the others, but the music’s good
Patrick & Scott say hello & thanks again to you and M.
PS - Didn’t we “meet” because you were googling squash or pumpkins?

Stumbled upon your blog tonight…
So I just had to mention:
1) Love your template. What is your blogging platform
2) Namedays are WAY COOL. Or, at least, the gifts you receive on your nameday are cool.
3) Greek people are cool. Yes, I’m 100% American, but I have two good friends who are Greek. And they’re very cool.

exterminate… is it still on show? I remember seeing it, but I don’t remember whether I’ve liked or not. Swimming courses vs. Football courses… The best courses I guess are these, where the parents can get the chance to do something else in the meanwhile… It could be swimming in another pool, or playing basketball in the court around the corner, or read a book in a cafe nearby. Kisses

The question is, if you eat the eye tubes off of your cookie Daleks, do they say, ‘My vision is impaired…my vision is impaired’…while wandering in total confusion on the plate?
September 30th, 2007 at 4:48 pm
Dalek cookies! What a great idea! Son and I are both Dr. Who fans. I’ve been watching since I was (probably) about FS’s age!!
