Chios is one of the strangest and most beautiful places I’ve ever been to. Some parts of it don’t feel like Greece at all. Some parts don’t feel like the 21st century either. I just wanted to show you some photos, say "hi I am back" and that I am going to post more pictures over the next few days (you can see more pictures here in my Flickr set).
It is really really good to be back. I am looking forward to a great autumn and new starts.

Hey Welcome Back!!!
I just wanted to say that and lay a big compliment on you for wonderful photos that capture the charm and color of Chios. Looking forward to seeing more

I’m so glad to have you back
It seems like an amazing place, so ancient, you can feel the weight of the years in those walls, those stones. I love that picture of the street.

Kat
thank you. I am glad to be back. I went back in time and now i am here again
Devil
it’s the weight of the years, exactly.
also, it’s all these different civilizations the island had contact with. it’s not your typical aegean island, at all. xxx

Welcome back!
Gorgeous pictures, as usual. I’m so envious of you and almost everyone else in Europe. The whole continent seems gorgeous.
Go and post a picture on smop!
Chloe says:
Don’t be envious, just visit.
I will! Thank you

I would say ‘kalo xeimona’ but I’d rather not. Instead; glad you had a good break, lovely pics and thanks for tugging at my heart strings with the ones of the water.
Chloe says:
Fuffy i don’t know your address anymore. I have saved a couple of Chios postcards to send you and some mastic. Send it please! As for the ouzo, we don’t have alcohol on the site, lots of VAT! But i can send you some as a gift. In any case, send an email. xx

Such beautiful pictures, Chloe! Seems like you had a wonderful vacation! I too am enjoying a nice “vacation” on the white sandy beaches of Florida with my family- while trying not to freak out at the fact that I will be starting my Parisian adventure in less than one week! AHHH! :)Take care!
Chloe says:
you will be fine Danielle! Paris is sooooo beautiful. I’ve been twice and i can’t wait to visit again. You are a lucky girl.
August 16th, 2007 at 8:29 am
wow, those are stunning pictures chloe! thanks for sharing them. i especially love the little alleys.
Chloe says:
me too. the people in Chios are used to seeing tourists on their doorsteps. Because of the little alleys you can easily lose your way.
August 16th, 2007 at 9:57 am
Yay! You’re back!
The island looks gorgeous, as all Greek islands do.
Now, what’s mastic?
Chloe says:
It’s a shrub, or a little tree and mastic is its resin. It is very aromatic and only grows in southern Chios. It is used in baking, sweets, ice creams, everything!

Oh my those are just beautiful photos. I think you should take time to put a book together of all your photography. You really have a talent. It could be my next coffee table book.
So glad you are back…Missed you.
Hugs,
Connie
Chloe says:
You are so sweet. I missed you too Connie. I’ve sent postcards, but i made the mistake to send them from a village so i don’t know when they will reach you. xxx

Those photos are amazing, and I can only imagine how interesting a place Chios is. Glad you’re back.

August 16th, 2007 at 11:28 pm
Welcome back! Gorgeous photos, I especially like the one of the patterned building and the detail on the underside of the balcony.
Chloe says:
That was Pyrgi, all the buildings are like that there. I got lost more than once.
August 17th, 2007 at 3:16 am
Those are amazing pictures.
I’m glad that you are back. I love the picture of the clock tower. The white paint on it contrasts the foreground.
Chloe says:
i am glad too! every village has a couple of these clock towers.

What a gorgeous place. Thank you for giving me an idea — what if I actually took a trip to Greece? Who wouldn’t want to see something so amazing! (I’d need to buy a better camera, though.)
Chloe says:
yay that would be great! you’d write your novel here!
August 17th, 2007 at 8:53 pm

Wondeful pictures, but beware utopias :). If the wives behave oddly they may have that Stepford thing going on. If there’s any uptight people being burnt in a Wicker Man it’s definetly time to worry.
Chloe says:
Hmmmm. No Stepford disease there. Actually the wives couldn’t be more anti-Stepford. Nothing is perfect there, everything is with faults and the houses are in decay which is always something you can trust. xx
August 19th, 2007 at 8:46 pm
yeah your back!! thanks for sharing those are so WOW!
Chloe says:
Day i missed you all so much. i wish you could have all come with me. i am not back for good. i am going away again in 10 days

Your photos are divine, as always!
I am so glad that you went to such a lovely place. It must have been a relaxing trip.
xo
Chloe says:
it was very relaxing. my sister came along too and it was great because i hadn’t gone on holiday with her for ages. xxxx

Those pictures make me long to go to Chios. I am missing my European vacation this year. Just seeing things that old that have endured all the centuries and the wars and destruction of time is very comforting to a New Worlder like me. What treasures!
