I live in a country that is forcing claustrophobia and agoraphobia on me. M and I went to Ejekt festival on Saturday, to see my favourite band, the Beastie Boys. I’ve waited so long to see them and naturally I was thrilled. As a bonus, we would also see Madness and Underworld.
But before the Beastie Boys had had the chance to sing Sabotage, I was choking, my eyes were swollen red and I had to run as fast as I could. Because some idiots thought it would be okay to burn some cars outside the stadium and throw molotov cocktails. Later, we also heard that Underworld’s singer was hurt too, possibly by a flying brick. And the best part is that just as the flames were going up and several explosions from the burning cars could be heard, the security people vanished completely. There was noone at the gates where thousands of people were heading to, nobody to safely take us out. There was no evacuation plan at all. Infuriating, isn’t it?

Madness (they were sweet)

Beastie Boys: Sorry for the bad photo quality. It is actually a still from my camera.

You’ve got to fight for your right to party, but not this way
(I found this photo here.
I wasn’t in a state to take photos).

Sabotage
(photo from the web, do not remember exactly where to give credit, but if it is yours, tell me so and I will add your link)
I was really sorry for all those people who had paid 60 and even 70 Euros, many of them really really young, at an age when this kind of money is a serious amount that you have to convince your parents for.
And I was sorry for me, because for the second time, I didn’t see what I intended to see and I didn’t have the fun I was supposed to have. Plus, as a result more concerts at the same stadium are being cancelled as we speak.

oh yes, my new flip flops

I don’t understand why people think it’s fun to burn things. And why would someone throw a brick at a concert? Why do some people ruin it for everyone trying to enjoy an event?

How can people be so stupid. It makes me mad to hear something like that from Greece, because these are the kind of news they like to bring on the TV and they stay in mind.
… the flip-flops are really great. Greek design?

What a bunch of losers!
Why did they do that? Were they participating in the festival or just people from the outside? It’s disturbing, where does this lead to?
Thank God for beautiful strawberries and flip-flops. You should have come to Lisbon and watched the Beastie Boys in peace

angel
because they had a rotten childhood probably, which at this point, is not my concern. this has to stop!
ardent

devil
i know! i have promised myself i am going to see them in London. I don’t know who these people were. I’ve read so many takes on the events, i don’t know anymore. there is a chance they didn’t even want to see the concert, i’ve read somewhere that maybe they were there to fight the security people for some kind of vendetta!
Other people say they were fans who were trying to get in for free. At that point (around 10) most people could get in for free. So i don’t know what to believe.

That is unreal and wrong on so many levels. I’ve seen the Beasties a few times and they are a great live show.

ohmyGOSH! that must have been scary . and you missed the bb again!!? ack!!
but the flops are awfully cute.
…. i’ll stir fry you in my wok

Chloe,
I’m sorry your night was ruined by such immature behavior, but fortunately you weren’t hurt! Hopefully you’ll be able to see the BB again in the near future!
All my best!

I’m sorry the concert could have been better, but I’m glad you’re safe and only feeling a little bummed out.
June 19th, 2007 at 11:46 pm
Chloe, I’m so sorry to hear the concert was interupted by idiots and hoodlums. I know how much you were looking forward to this concert.
Sometimes, I can see the why of your desire to move to England more clearly.

That is really terrible, Chloe. We had a demonstration here this past week and lightbulbs filled with paint were thrown at police officers. No fire, but some officers were injured. The world is generally becoming a more aggressive place, don’t you think?
On a more positive note, the first image with the strawberry is amazing; the background wallpaper is beautiful; I would have it in my bedroom. And the flip flops are wonderful! I want a pair! You have made me want to go shoe shopping now. So dangerous!
Have a nice trip away! xo

This is so sad. Just keep posting your lovely photos, which are unique.
They help me mellow out my harsh.

That must have been an awful experience for you. I would have been frightened out of my mind. So sorry you missed your favorite band but I am so glad you are safe.
Your flip flops are way fun!!!
Hugs,
Connie

So the ‘anarchists’ are interested in concerts now. How droll. Praps go and see them in London, I don’t think tear gas has caught on at music events here yet..

The more I think about it and try to find answers that make sense the more furious I become so I’ve stopped. Let’s hope that it won’t be repeated although I seriously doubt it

how enirely stupid of those people…
slack security?
cute flip flops!
June 21st, 2007 at 3:50 am
Oooh, I hope they have some of flip flops left by the time I get to Athens (in September). Scary stuff happens there doesn’t it, why are they always burning cars?…ciao
June 21st, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Those shoes!!! So gorgeous.
That concert organisation: I’d be inconsolable. How horrific. Much sympathy from this corner of the world.
June 22nd, 2007 at 1:06 am
There’s always someone that has to try and spoil the fun!!
LOVE the new flip flops!!
June 22nd, 2007 at 6:59 am
Oooooooh no! I’m sorry this turned out like it did!
I think I take for granted how easily I can access all the bands I want to see here. No…I know I take it for granted.
Technically, it’s the third time you didn’t get to see what you wanted to see, but at least for the in-between one, fun was had anyway.
June 23rd, 2007 at 6:03 pm
Jerks! That is so rude. And such a shame.
Geezer will be so jealous you saw madness. That’s his favourite band of all time.
June 26th, 2007 at 8:31 pm
first let me say… LOVEEEE the flip flops.
Wow I just can’t believe that happened. That is insave. I’m so greatful the god that you were not hurt.
