This Monday morning, I woke my son up, gave him his breakfast, helped him dress and prepared his snacks for school. Then we went downstairs to wait for the school bus. A feeling of impending doom I had been trying to suppress overwhelmed me so five minutes before the bus arrived I told him to go upstairs and take his shoes off. Then I told the driver he was sick and could he bring the homework after school (they do this for everyone).
Am I nuts? Probably. I kept my son home because I had a bad dream and a bad premonition. On top of that, two of his photos had fallen off the shelf yesterday evening. I mean, who could argue with THAT?
Now he is cheerfully playing with his ships in his room and thinking of me both as his Monday saviour and his crazy gaoler.

I don’t think it’s crazy. You can’t ignore a bad feeling. You did the right thing and, like you say, he’s most likely praising you for a bonus day at home!

I am quite sure he was happy to stay home. My daughtr would have just said’ “Are you crazy?”

i would have done the exact same thing. a women’s intuition is a powerful thing!!

You did the right thing. A woman’s intuition should never be questioned, and following it was the best course of action.
There have been places that wanted to “watch” my child while I attend a meeting or some other function, but twice in the past I got a bad vibe about the people or the room to where I politely declined the child watching offer, and ended going home early or spending time at the park alone with my daughter. I never look back and wonder if it was the right thing to do, I’ve always accepted it was.

Yes, sometimes there is something going on that you can’t pin down. Whenever I have ignored those feelings it has been a mistake.

I couldn’t…I’m all for premonitions. You really couldn’t let him go with that feeling inside of you, it would be torture. Hope you have a pleasant day together

one day of school is no big deal compared to your need for calm. at least that’s what MY voices always tell me
February 5th, 2007 at 4:42 pm
Hey, nobody’s complaining. Better safe than sorry.
If you ever get one of those premonitions about me, send me an email. ^_^

February 5th, 2007 at 7:29 pm
Better slightly nutty, than regretting that you hadn’t paid attention, right? I wish my Mum had had premonitions to keep me home from school!

Womens Intuition is a powerful thing. Can’t afford to take the chance on something like that.
Hope the two of you had a lovely day together.
Take care, Meow

not crazy, never crazy. when you feel it in your gut you tend to be right. period.
and he’s happier for it, right? so you’ve just gotten the incredibly rare two-fer. life often doesn’t work out so well.

Three times in my life have I had a strong feeling that when I saw this person (well, 3 different, obviously - all acquaintances, not friends), it would be the last time ever. And it was - they were all killed (two in traffic accidents, one murdered) within a week after I saw them.
Had I felt something like that before sending the kids to school, I’d certainly have kept them home too! For the remains of my days…

Oh I would definitely follow your feelings…Besides you are now the coolest mom ever in your son’s eyes.
Take care,
Connie

This sounds like something I would do. I completely understand. Always go with your gut, no matter how many times it turns out to be wrong.

February 7th, 2007 at 5:37 pm
Follow your intuition, I think. I would have done the same
February 7th, 2007 at 5:40 pm
If I am ever blessed to be a mom, I would want to be the exact kind that you are!
