My son and I pass outside a ballet school. We can see the little ballerinas practising their pliés. My son grimaces in disgust. I haven’t seen this face since the day he accidentally ate sticky okras. -Blech!!!!!! It’s lucky that boys can’t be ballet dancers. -Who said that? Many boys are ballet dancers. Who do you think dances the male parts in Swan Lake? -Come on mum. Everybody knows these people are NOT real dancers. They are just there to catch the ballerinas when they spin and leap. And with that remark, he throws up his hands in exasperation, as if to ask why would god give him such an ignorant mother.

I love Billy Elliot - Noah loves
it and he dances - but only
because he is in a Fine Arts
School and doesn’t have any
gender associations with it…
so far…thankfully..because
he is GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE THAT PORTRAIT - JEEPERS
THAT BEAUTIFUL BOY IS SO
CUTE AND A NATURAL…
hey….he could do an
“in character” brilliantly…:)

My son loves to dance..I think I have mentioned that his nick-name is Fred (as in Astaire). I am waiting for the day when he decides that this is very un-cool…hopefully not!
Your son is such a cutie…what a grin

Cheeky blighter! lol
If I’d have said that to my mum, she’d have given me a cuff round the back of the head!

oh, there are times when i wish i could dance ballet. ballerinas have some of the most beautiful figures on the planet imho. tell your son that he would be the only boy in amongst a room full of girls and see what he says

I wish I could dance ballet but my sister does a good job of it for the both of us. LOL.
How are you? been a while.
September 20th, 2006 at 5:33 am
Exactly, maybe you should have a dvd night and watch Billy Elliot. But prepare him for the shock hehe
The picture is amazing!
September 20th, 2006 at 5:52 am
Heh!
Kids eh?
He will learn soon enough. Ballet dancers of bothe genders are ridiculously supple and strong.
It’s a shame that certain stereotypes still apply to this profession.

I was going to mention Billy Elliott but everybody else mentioned it.
I went to Jive/Rock ‘n’ Roll Dance class for the first time last week. I’ve found a dance partner called Rebecca who is a starter as well. She’s small and skinny and that suits me fine. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and I know I’ll be crap at it, but just to watch some of the regular dancers do their thing is worth the entrance money alone.
Roll on Thursday night for act 2 and Friday morning for the sore back.

he falls in love and wants
to invite her to the dance.

I agree with bedshaped but I think this clip of Billy Elliot will be an easier connection to see.

September 20th, 2006 at 3:05 pm

I adore the purest thoughts that only come from boys. The simplest of things can be said it shows the clear path of their psyche.
Amazing.

What a wonderful post. I can remember being at a young age and having conversations with my Mother. So many of those moments live so brightly inside of my spirit. So many years ago yet it’s as though the memories just took place yesterday. Thanks for sharing this. Your son is adorable.

My oldest is now the only boy dancing here (two of the others took ballet this spring, but now opted for football…) - but it’s supposed to be cool dancing, breaking and spinning. And mostly only in class, when they have to..

love it!!
My son took dancing for years…then one day he said…the girls always have the best parts. and quit.
