My son waived the privilege of choosing his backpack this year for the greater pleasure of one more vacation day. He is coming back on Sunday afternoon and starts school on Monday. I thought I had better at least ask him about the backpack’s colour so as to avoid drama first thing on Monday morning. -What colour do you want your schoolbag to be? -NOT pink. -Okay but give me a colour. -Mauve. Mauve. And that ended the subject. The truth is I would buy him a leopard print backpack with tartan pockets and gold zippers if he had asked me to, because I am so sorry he is going back to school. Going to school is not a natural state of being. Learning at his age (8), shouldn’t be done in schools nor in any other institution. I am sorry he has to wake up that early every day. I am sorry he has to learn useless things. I am sorry he is not going to have enough time to play. And I am not sure that the mauve backpack makes it better.

do people homeschool in greece?? how about it chloe? lol.
he sounds “unpicky”, just like i like 8 yr olds. maybe he can settle for red or navy if you cant find mauve- although you are a good mother, so i am sure you will find mauve!! LOL

Pink (girl) and green (boy) were the choices of the twins… who are ten and so a little more concerned about appearances. They were excited to return to the classroom again, mostly to see familar faces and friends and, oh yeah, learn some stuff…it’ll be fine.

I never enjoyed school when I was young. Just didn’t enjoy the whole experience. Wish I would have had an option of home school…That dessert looks yummy.

School was good until 11plus.

I hated every last second of school, but it did teach me a lot about people, and how society is structured.

I hate going back to school, too! I wish I didn’t have to go. It means the end of the summer and long days
Mauve is an interesting choice for a bad colour… did you find a mauve bag?

I’m sorry for him too, as there is still plenty of sunshine to play under. But even if it’s a little hard for him to let go of his holiday-mode, he’ll soon get used to school again and he’ll enjoy it.

And I’m sorry it’s obviously not a very good school. Because learning is fun! At least it’s supposed to be. My kids are very happy in school. Admittedly - there’s a lot of time in school and little time at home — but the actual learning process and being with other kids is great! I’m so sorry that’s not how it is with P. Could it be it’s just the transition from holidays to school that’s so bad? And not the actual school?
I’m probably weird, but I’d go to school for the rest of my life if I could. 18 years of it wasn’t near enough..

I wouldn’t have asked for a backpack. I’d ask what my 8yr daughter asked a few months ago. “One laminated doctors note excusing her from school for the rest of her childhood.”

school sucks.
but not this year for my son
because my BEST friend is his
teacher.
She is so awesme other teachers
hate her and resent her for
raising the miserably low bar
in education.
That’s how good she is.
I wish your little guy could
go to school with my little
guy. They sound so much alike.

My 4 yr old has recently started school and she loves it! I find it difficult to keep her active little mind entertained all the time and am very welcome that people are paid to do that.
My friend lives in England and is Sweedish. Her boy is a similar age to my daughter. She can’t get over the fact that her 4 year old is in proper school all day. In many European countries kids must wait till 7 at least! I personally think this is too old! Miss B is totally ready for school and spends her holidays asking when she can go back. She gets up with the dawn anyway, so trying to get her out of bed is not an issue!
