I am very proud of my –now diagnosed- syndrome. It is called Ulnar Neuritis (friends call it Cubital Tunnel syndrome). The nerve behind the elbow is compressed and I have to have an Electromyogram to see how damaged and compressed it is.
We don’t know why I have it yet. It may be because I spend 15 hours a day on the computer, or because of a past injury, although I sincerely cannot recall being injured since I am always at my desk.
The doctor said he might have to immobilize my left hand (no cooking, no writing) or if things are bad, I might have surgery. So, bye bye translation of the silly psychology book.

Ouch!
Here’s to hoping it gets better without surgery or giving up blogging.

July 20th, 2006 at 6:21 pm

July 20th, 2006 at 6:27 pm
Oh no! I hope you have a speedy recovery! Does it hurt much?
July 20th, 2006 at 8:14 pm
I’ll pray for you.
July 20th, 2006 at 9:23 pm
So sorry to hear about this, Chloe.
My sister-in-law had this, and had surgery and it is now perfectly fine, and she recovered quickly from the surgery.
But let’s hope you won’t need that and it will heal on its own. Nature’s way of keeping you from translating silly psychology books.
Take care. Sweet dreams.
July 20th, 2006 at 9:46 pm
maybe if you cut down to just 12 hrs a day on the computer? will that help it??
poor chloe!!! praying for no surgery and no mobilization of arm. that would be horrible with no blog!! AHHH
July 20th, 2006 at 10:18 pm
My brother-in-law had the surgery and is doing great. His was as a result of computer usage and golf I believe. I have this funny feeling you are not a golfer though… ;o) xoS

Should have hit the doc up for a metallic robotic hand. It sounds like a radical treatment, I know. But opening jars would be a cinch.

Seriously, get yourself rested and I hope the pain isn’t too discomforting

Goodness, Chloe, that doesn’t sound too good. Hopefully resting it will do the trick … better than surgery !! (Type with the other hand …might take longer, but at least you will rest the other one !!)
Take it easy, relax, and have a good weekend. Hugs, Meow xx

July 22nd, 2006 at 12:06 am
OH Goodness NO!! Did you tell your DR. that is not an option?
July 22nd, 2006 at 3:28 am
Yes, I hope surgery isn’t necessary, but you should listen to your doctor whatever he says — but don’t give up blogging! You can always do audio posts until you heal…
July 22nd, 2006 at 4:32 am
I know it is a relief sometimes when they put a name on what is wrong. It gets very frustrating. I don’t in any way want to lose you as a blogging friend…so you tell them to make you all better!!
Big hugs,
Connie

Isn’t that some new fangled name or diagnosis for good old Tennis Elbow? Well, whatever they want to call it, I hope it’s sorted soon for you!
July 22nd, 2006 at 6:23 am
really no blogging?
Maybe we can call you instead to see how you’re doing..
July 22nd, 2006 at 6:36 am
I had it, but got away without the surgery. Instead, i had cortisone injections, it took a while, but they did work. I hope you can get by without having the surgery.
Hoping for the best for you :o)
July 22nd, 2006 at 7:35 am
No blogging?
Not an option …
I’m sending healing vibes your way … Feel anything yet?
Peace
July 22nd, 2006 at 4:04 pm
Is that all it is!
July 22nd, 2006 at 6:58 pm
Maybe they’ll have to do a quick surgery, my aunt did that and has been fine ever after. I had the same thing while pregnant with Jakob, but it passed - literally - at the same time he came out…
Hope you get better very soon!
July 22nd, 2006 at 10:39 pm
oh, that bites. i’m sorry. hope you get better! maybe try cutting down the computer hrs down to 10 hrs? would that help? hehe….take care!
July 23rd, 2006 at 1:15 am
all the best with that.
July 23rd, 2006 at 7:51 am
What no blogging? That Dr. is no good. Get a second opinion. You can blog opposite handed you know. I did it after shoulder surgery.
July 23rd, 2006 at 11:06 am
I think you should be given a PA to do all your typing for you. Actually, pay me handsomly and I’ll do it.
July 23rd, 2006 at 5:28 pm
thank you all for your wishes. i am going to have that test this week but i still have other blogging options too: podcasts and speech recognition software (erikku and just sayin’ you are in my head)!
