She had a severe asthma attack. She left it too late and she almost, well, almost. On top of that she has pneumonia, mild pneumonia though. I called her yesterday to ask her to come to the Book Festival with me and she said "I can’t I am in hospital". So I went there and she looked okay but frightened. Apart from being scared out of my mind, I am also very angry at her. She hasn’t been taking care of herself. She hasn’t been seeing the doctor, or taking the right medication and she has been working long hours and going to work with a fever, like some other people I know. I was playing back in my head our last telephone conversation, 3 days ago. She was coughing and blowing her nose and sounded tired, but still made an effort to laugh at my silly jokes. Why didn’t I tell her not to go to work the next day? She is going to have to stay in hospital until Tuesday or Wednesday. I am off to see her now. It’s awful to see her in that sterile environment.

Oh, that’s bad
It’s so concerning when our loved ones don’t take care of themselves: we might tell them to but sometimes they don’t listen and ultimately it’s up to them.
I hope she gets better soon and rests for a while for now. It’s all the polens around, isn’t it?

What terrible news. She is so lucky to have a great friend like you to comfort her. Now she can take this time to heal and get better and tak more care.
I hope she gets out of the hospital so very soon and that she is going to be fine. xoxoxo

I’m very sorry to hear that!. She is in my prayers.

Poor Blondie! And it’s so easy for any of us to become over-extended and neglect ourselves like this, too. Wish her lots of bloggy get-well wishes.

Poor Blondie. take her a treat and give her lots of hugs- dont be too mad at her
they will fix her up and set her right on her meds. xoxox

pneumonia is pretty bad, and severe asthma is pretty bad, but to combine the two i can’t even imagine. hope she’s feeling better

I am so sorry your friend is ill. It is always such a shock to find out someone is in the hospital. Thank goodness she is there now and they can take really good care of her and get her back on track to good health. She probably wouldn’t have been able to get better on her own at home.
Hopefully they might even change her medicine and tell her how important it is that she keep taking it.
Tell her we all wish her well and I am sure she will be home very soon.
Hugs,
Connie

Oh no - take care of yourself, Blondie! I’m trying to listen to that advice myself. Feel better soon
May 27th, 2006 at 11:05 am
if i were in the hospital and
a Chloe came to visit i would
think it was quite worth it-
and if she brought food
and witty observations of the
sterile conditions i would
never leave!

Best wishes for Blondie…
I do dislike hospitals…

Poor Blondie. Not that I know first hand or anything, by asthma is awful. Imagine not being able to breathe, like drowning out of water.
Hope she feels right soon. ^_^

Hope she gets better quickly! There’s probably medication she ought to be taking to prevent this kind of thing - or at least listen to the signs her body must have been giving her..
Get well soon, Blondie! And take care of yourself too, Chloe

Oh I am so sorry to hear this..My thoughts and prayers go out to Blondie.
May 27th, 2006 at 6:46 pm
Thank you all so much. Blondie is going to be thrilled to know you all wish her well. I went to see her today again and we spent a little time all by ourselves and she said she is going to take better care of herself from now on. She is much better but she must put on a little weight. And i am going to make sure she does (cheesecakes and jams and pies).
May 27th, 2006 at 7:00 pm
Tell Blondie I send my well wishes.
May 27th, 2006 at 8:26 pm
Thanks for the update, Chloe.
I was hoping that she would be fine. What a great thing; to have to put on some weight!!! And have you to bring cakes and jams! Lucky Blondie. No way, I don’t feel sorry for her at all now. Not one bit

Poor Blondie … I’m sure all your yummy goodies will make her feel heaps better. Best wishes from me to her. Take care, Meow

I wish Blondie a speedy recovery and may she never have to visit a hospital again. Chloe, even if you had told her to stay home it sounds like she wouldn’t have. Even if you didn’t recommend something she needed at the time, you’re still a wonderful friend to her.
May 28th, 2006 at 2:28 am
Don’t worry Chloe, I’m sure Blondie will be fine in the hospital (I am scared shitless of roaches and hospitals)they’ll take of her. Combination of allergy and pneumonia can be dangerous..Perastika

Hmm…cheesecakes, lucky Blondie
Glad she’s doing better!
May 28th, 2006 at 10:55 am
Sorry to hear about that - hopefully she recovers quickly! My sister told me last week that she had had a micro heart attack a week ago. I know it’s “micro” and it’s not the real thing, but she’s only 30!!! I guess we all need to take better care of ourselves..
May 28th, 2006 at 1:47 pm
Hope she gets well really soon and puts on weight too
And thank God for caring friends like you …
May 28th, 2006 at 2:07 pm
Oh dear. Hope she gets well soon.

Some people (me included) always try to shrug off ailments, thinking we’re indestructable.
Hope Blondie gets well soon
May 28th, 2006 at 3:03 pm
Chloe- It wouldn’t have mattered if you had given her advice. She wouldn’t have taken it. Sometimes experience is the best teacher. She’ll be none the worse for wear when she gets out and smarter because of the experience.
May 28th, 2006 at 7:31 pm
Hope she feels better very soon! xoS
PS - I tagged you… poor unfortunate soul…

You can’t tell people what to do. Even if you are right, especially when you’re right, they just resent it. Sending healing vibes over the seas,

Oh poor Blondie!

Blondie is a doctor, isn’t she? I’ve heard doctors make the worst patients.
I know she’s better already, but I’ll send her (and you) good wishes anyway.
