Happy Birthday Erikku, may you eat as many pancakes as your heart desires
I had no idea there was such a thing as a Pancake Tuesday until you mentioned it. I think it was Ben at first, and then others validated this crazy idea of reserving a day for pancakes, which sounds reasonable and makes total sense to me. So I made pancakes, at least a savoury kind of pancakes called tiganites.
And I received a beautiful card –you can see a detail in the picture- from Zona Boy. The card tells a beautiful story Zona heard from Native American people and I am going to translate it to my son because he likes stories about magic and folklore. Thank you Zona! I know some of you don’t believe I still don’t have the broadband I had asked for about a million ages ago, when the good Lord made the earth and the stars and the seas. But it is true, I don’t. And when M. called today to threaten that we were going to sue them (they have been already paid for non services), they just made a telephone shrug and they said they have been too busy with all those broadband applications. It might take another month. -Did you say I am a journalist and I need it for work? I asked M. desperate at this point to be exempted from the law of internet gravity that pulls everything that is non broadband down. For an internet addict, I have it pretty bad. Without proper internet connection, and with my computer still being fixed (it’s not Deep Blue, it’s a standard computer), these are testing times. On top of everything, in the age of technological progress, I have to dye Easter eggs for the magazine, using beets and onions and nettles. P.S I only know one pancake song, the one by Tori Amos, titled "Pancake". Any others?

Oh no, oh no, oh no! NO broadband? That’s not good!
But at least you have pancakes. And they look fabulous!

They do look very nice. Better than the batter pancakes we have here. A wiser man once noted that pancake tuesday was invented by evil pancake corporations to make us eat more batter.

I am big into Greek Easter in this
house - it’s so fun colouringthe
eggs red - so pretty -
“Banana Pancakes” by Jack Johnson
is terrific - he has a lovely voice
and is very hip here at the moment
“…Maybe we could sleep in,
I’l make you banana pancakes,
pretend like it’s the weekend now
We’ve got to wake up slow…”
Smiles!

no it’s not good.
maybe i can use pancakes to go online, i’m sure if i search hard enough, there must be a recipe. Martha Stewart knows everything.
xx
Jack
what’s wrong with batter? and these are savoury pancakes, the sweet ones are the really yummy ones.
madelyn
greek easter is nice (not for lambs, it’s nice for people) but it is in April. But yes you are right colouring eggs is fun (i have never tried colouring them with beets, so i have doubts)
February 28th, 2006 at 10:40 am
I have done it with beets -
very rich color - and it
stains even more than commercial
dyes so be careful!
Smiles!

You didnt know about Pancake day? Even from your time in Edinburgh? Do you know why they’re eaten on a certain day?
You may need to speak to someone cleverer than me but I believe its to mark the start of Lent when some biblical character possibly Jesus spent 40days and nights in the wilderness and people who wanted to give something up for 40 days and copy him feasted on pancakes first

Lat week an emergency shipment of whole grain organic pancake mix was delivered to our apartment here, deep in the heart of brotchenland … and the “yummmmmy” was heard for miles!

nevets
nobody made pancakes for me while i was there, how should i know?
cathy
i just hate those people. i can imagine them sipping coffee, feet on their desks and laughing at my low speed connection.
finn
nothing is in them, everything is on them. well, in my pancakes there is something that makes them savoury and that is a bit of salt and some dry parsley or chives. But you put some grated cheese on top of them and they are nice.
stephanie
if you don’t know any pancake songs then there aren’t any pancake songs
pirate
i guess you can put some meat on a pancake, top it with another pancake and you are good to go!
berlinbound
that’s such a nice arrival! pictures of the finished product please.
Fuff
Kathara Deutera is a feast! i love it! and we are going to fly a kite aren’t we?

What a bunch of incompetents…it’s sad really, and exhasperating, obviously!
So those are the greek equivalents of pancakes…why does no one eat pancakes in Portugal?…I don’t get it.
I can’t remember a song on pancakes but it reminds me a lot of a comic book for kids called Petzi, do you know it? I loved it when I was a little girl
February 28th, 2006 at 5:28 pm
Made pancakes, too! I got the last batch of lemon in the supermarket! My fave things on pancakes are lemon and sugar!
Also, want you to be the first to know… I finally put up a recipe on the Veg Recipes blog. So much typing lol! Should edit the link list soon and will make it exclusively recipe blog roll English or otherwise
xx

Yummy, they look great. I love the german potato pancakes … KartoffelPuffer … they are simply the best. Mum makes them, and I do too, with grated raw potatoe, grated raw onion, egg, seasoning (salt, pepper, parsley) and some flour. Then fry in oil or margarine until golden and crispy. They can be eaten with apple sauce, but I love them sprinkled with sugar … mmmmm, I’m drooling, just thinking about them !!
Have a great day, Chloe, and take care … Meow xx

you’re very welcome for the card. I was craving pancakes earlier today.
Maybe tomorrow. mmmm

Batter is OK in certain circumstances. The reason we have pancake tuesday is because we don’t eat pancakes all year around.
If we liked pancakes all that much then there would be no-need for a day dedicated to them.
March 1st, 2006 at 6:08 am
oooh, I am really craving pancakes now!
I went to my friends and we ended up drinking too much champagne and then being too tipsy to make pancakes…
Your pancakes look scrumptious!
March 1st, 2006 at 7:45 am
Thought you may have noticed, sorry no offence intended.
the Greeks are quite religious do you guys not do anything before Lent? We call it Shrove Tuesday but I dont know why
March 2nd, 2006 at 11:33 am
Truth: I actually thought about making pancakes today (on my Birthday, I mean), but scrapped that in favor of frozen waffles.
Did you draw that picture or your son? I hope it was your son…
Kidding!!
March 5th, 2006 at 6:33 pm
I was trying to find out the history behind Pancake day. It’s also known as “Shrove Tuesday” and I got several answers. Apparently it goes back to the pre-emancipation days when slave-owners would treat slaves to one last day of good food and drink before they were treated poorly again or something like this? I was also told that Catholics get to eat and be merry before giving up all the tastey stuff for lent. I eat sausage and pancakes with peanut butter AND maple syrup. I feel indulgent that way.
This lent, I’m giving up using elevators, jumping off of high buildings, getting attacked by crocodiles and being run over by people in wheel-chairs.

oh! the pancake looks tooooooo good! wish i could dig my teeth into it and have it all for myself ;-)…too bad that you haven’t yet received your broadband connection :(….nontheless who can prevent an internet addict like you from blogging
