It’s not always bad to read what’s on the back of foam bath bottles, shampoos, sauces and juices you buy from the supermarket. I like doing it and not only because I have to check the ingredients for nasty Es and animal ingredients. Sometimes, I also read the poetry on those foam bath bottles. Like the following piece of work I found on a blue babble bath bottle:
"Fire, Water, Earth and Air
Another poetic moment was offered by a dedication I read a few days ago in a psychology book I am translating:
"My dear and beautiful husband and friend, you keep my heart aloft and happy. Bless you for your substantive sublte intelligence and your steadfast integrity, humor and deep love. Your skills as reader and editor are, as ever, invaluable. Beautiful beacon of human possibility, you bridge the worlds of dreams and gravitas and let me trundle along. Thank you."
I have nothing against bubble baths or husbands and when they are combined, it is very nice. But this is too much like light pollution. When every house in the city is illuminated just like Eiffel Tower we cannot see the night sky. And when every bubble bath bottle, or bag of crisps is full of lyricism, then we cannot see real poetry anywhere. This is a threat to me. So, all you cosmetics manufacturers, fire your poets and get real.
